THE first three members of a street warden service funded by £75,000 Home Office grant started work on Monday.

The three community and environment liaison officers are Mo Pearce, Nick Brain and Julie Shingles.

To be known as Forest Lynx, the uniformed team is set to deal with issues such as abandoned cars, litter, dog fouling and many other matters affecting quality of life in the Forest.

"We are proud to launch the forest scheme in the county," said a spokesman for the Forest of Dean District Council, which has organised the programme which will run initially for three years.

"They have a wide remit and as this is a new initiative the three officers have undergone a lot of intensive training to give them the necessary knowledge of areas such as council services, housing matters, community safety and drugs issues."

Each team member has a designated area to work in plus a vehicle to ensure maximum flexibility and responsiveness.

"It is hoped that the success for Forest Lynx will attract more funding and will provide an example to councils in other areas," said the spokesman.
