RESIDENTS of Sedbury put their best foot forward to launch a campaign for a new venue.

The project to convert an old youth club into a venue for the whole community – named Sedbury Space – will cost around £55,000.

The first step in a crowd-funding campaign was launched on Saturday morning (May 13) by a group of young dancers who got members of the public to join in.

Members of Powerhouse Dance and The Gaff youth club showed their moves outside the Spar store in Beachley Road.

The campaign is bringing together residents, local councils, the church and Two Rivers Housing.

The Barnwood Trust has offered a grant of £25,000, but the campaign also needs to raise £5,000 from crowd-funding.

Janice Hamilton, of Tidenham Church, said: “We want Sedbury Space to be an attractive and welcoming place with accessible facilities that will draw people together and encourage them to get involved.

“We have already launched a memory cafe and homework club and are piloting a monthly drop-in for housing and benefits advice but these activities are severely limited at the moment by the difficult space.

“We’ve received some amazing donations from local businesses and supporters to offer as rewards for those who donate through our crowd-funding campaign.

“Everyone who makes a donation will have their names displayed on our list of supporters and an invitation to our celebration opening event which will take place once the work is completed,” she added.
