I'M puzzled by the letter from a reader stating we must have a cull of the Forest boar – why? Because three appeared near Pillowell woods!
Please think about it calmly. These animals are not harming us, they will leave us alone if we leave them alone.
I walk and ride in the Forest every day. I often hear the movements of boar, always heading away from me. Friends have met them on paths but have backtracked and given them time to move away which they invariably do.
The boar are not the problem – we are!
We need to understand how to live alongside our wild animals (although technically the boar are feral) not destroy them.
Would the reader like the deer culled if three were seen near Pillowell Woods? A buck can be dangerous, as can any wild animal.
This is a unique place to live and the boar enrich our experience of the Forest as a place of beauty and peace.
Let's allow them to share that peace.
