FOR the last 20 years the ‘Welcome to Cinderford – Heart of the Forest’ signs have acted as a focal point for those entering and leaving the Forest town but it’s time for a change.

It’s understood the signs, designed and made by a local company, will cost in total £1,400.

Cinderford town clerk, Lynda Thomas said: “It was agreed that the old signs were quite dated and needed upgrading, and it turned out that the posts had also rotted, so we need to get them done as soon as possible.”

The town council asked members of the public on its Facebook page to choose one of three designs to update the existing one.

Feedback suggested the council should scrap the tagline ‘Gateway to the Forest of Dean’ in favour of ‘Cinderford: Heart of the Forest’. The new sign also features the town’s war memorial and Cinderford Triangle and clock tower.

Lynda added: “It’s not known when the other two signs will be fitted. The most popular design was the second concept, with some suggested amendments, so hopefully everyone will be pleased with the result.”
