A TEAM from Severn Wye Smokery at Chaxhill have come home from a prtestigious Devon food festival covered in glory.

They set off for the Dartmouth Festival with two home-made smokers, a barbecue and tanks of elvers.

The elvers were part of their 'tanks in school scheme' that they introduced last year in two local schools and expanded to 20 tanks this year.

"The scheme is part of a restocking programme that Severn and Wye have introduced to give elvers a greater chance of survival and preserve fish stocks," said a spokesman.

"As a result of the amazing success of these tanks there is an ambitious plan to widen the scheme to 50 tanks next year and possibly some of these will be located in the Dartmouth area.

"The smokers were an opportunity to show how simple the process is of smoking fish and also provide our take on 'street food'.

"On the menu were  thickly sliced Var salmon, mackerel fillets and eel speets all smoked in our shed and then finished on the barbecue.

"We also had Dartmouth dabbbers  ( a fish pie in a spring roll ) and they were all available with bubble and squeak.

"As it was our first attempt at doing food at a food show we were amazed with so many other seasoned food  show producers present to be awarded Best in Show!"
