GRASS-UP or stitch-up? Two Rivers have recently sent letters to hundreds of Forest of Dean residents requesting payment for the cutting of public grass areas – areas that they claim have been taken over from the Forest of Dean District Council.

However the majority of the households pay council tax which covers the maintenance of the highways. So what are the highways?

Roads, drains, paths, verges, play parks etc. Also an article in newspapers showed that Sedbury and Longhope residents are refusing to pay and so should everyone at this moment in time.

Are we expected to pay twice? Once through council tax and once to Two Rivers? So what can be done?

Either allow residents to cut grass, let the grass grow or give a council tax rebate; but whatever happens residents should not give in to the hard bullying message received through the post.

Will they take all 2,000-plus households to court or see sense and accept that we have already paid for this service? Wait and see. – Resident, Lydney
