A GLASS bottle return scheme has proved a big success for a farm following a ‘record breaking’ weekly order of their unhomogenised milk.

Tidenham’s Chase Farm received the order for 100 bottles from Coleford’s Forest Deli following ‘fantastic’ feedback from customers over the glass bottle deposit scheme.

The farm approached Forest Deli in May to sell the milk, with the deli praising its superior taste and flavour compared to milk products in the supermarket.

But while customers loved the milk, they were less convinced about the packaging.

Forest Deli’s Simon Jones said: “We started selling it and received amazing customer feedback about the taste of the milk, but also lots of comments of “shame it’s in a plastic bottle.”

So Chase Farm’s Lisa Bennett came up with a way to affordably sell the milk in glass bottles via a deposit scheme.

Forest Deli were more than happy to be the first business to offer the service to customers, who return empties to the store in exchange for a fresh bottle.

The farm has seen sales grow since the scheme started six months ago and Forest Deli has just taken delivery of its first 100-bottle weekly order.

Lisa Bennett said: “We are really pleased with how sales have grown. This week marks our first six months of selling our own milk directly and it’s great to see so many people embracing the glass bottle scheme.”
