A CINDERFORD man has said staff at the Forest's household recycling centre need to do more to encourage people to dispose of their waste correctly.
Andrew Jenkins went to the Oak Quarry in Broadwell with two black bin liners of household waste – but was refused entry by a member of staff.
Allegedly, a member of staff had seen Andrew walk across the road from his van, which he had parked on a grass verge opposite the centre, and carry the bags across the road. As he approached the gates he was told by a member of staff that he couldn't bring the bags in as his van wasn't booked in – despite the van not being on the premises.
Andrew said: "I kept repeating that the bags contained domestic household waste and that I was fully aware of the appointment rules for vans, as I have taken my van into the tip before, but as I was passing by I thought I would drop them in. I wouldn't normally go up there but as our wheelie bin collection wasn't until Wednesday and the bin men won't take rubbish if it is overfull, I thought I would just take it in. I don't see what the problem is – I haven't had any issue before.
Andrew left the two bin liners with the member of staff, he added: "I was so annoyed and just said if I can't take it in then I will let you and left the bin liners at the gates."
Cllr Will Windsor-Clive, cabinet member for fire, planning and infrastructure at Gloucestershire County Council, said: "There is absolutely no excuse for fly-tipping; a criminal activity that rightly carries a substantial penalty for anyone caught doing it.
"However, there is no pedestrian access to the Oak Quarry household recycling centre and, for reasons of safety, we ask all residents to bring household waste by vehicle. Since 2008, we have also asked all people bringing waste in vans, pick-ups or cars with large trailers to book the day before. It is illegal for a business to deposit waste at our centres.
"If Mr Jenkins would like to book his van in a day in advance or bring his waste by car we will be very happy to accept it."
