A CHARITY for the elderly has been presented with a new ‘meals on wheels’ van thanks to a donation from a resident.
Age Concern Forest of Dean was given the gift by Robert Ward after he gave up driving.
Initially, he had offered the van to his niece who declined it, but her husband, one of the charity’s dedicated team of volunteer drivers, suggested that it would be very useful for helping deliver its 700 meals per week.
Pete McCoy approached Tracey Meek, Age Concern kitchen manager in Cinderford, who readily accepted the generous offer. And she has had the van badged with the charity’s meals service logo and the name of the kind donor and it is already in service.
“Our existing van is getting old, so this one not only allows meals service delivery, it is there for when the other van needs repair,” said Tracey. “Without vehicles and drivers, Age Concern could not continue its service of delivering meals to elderly residents,” she added.
“We are always in desperate need of volunteer drivers who receive expenses if they use their own car.
