A GOOD old-fashioned dunking in a downpour of epic proportions failed to even waver the Dunkirk spirit of those who defied the weather and turned out in their hundreds for the Great Oaks Hospice summer fete.
Beating the odds, organisers announced on Monday a profit of over £5,000.
It was, they said, a case of carry on regardless!
For those who wanted, stalls were switched from the grounds to the inside. But others battled on!
Among them, special thanks must go to Myra and Joan who ran the plant stall, Philip Blatchly with his golf game, Marc who organised the barbecue, and the Sea Cadets who sailed through everything on the 'hook a duck' stall.
A spokesman said: "The brilliant volunteers on the stalls inside also did a roaring trade and the fabulous refreshments sustained our wonderful supporters."
