NEWNHAM Street Fair committee member Mike Penny admitted the annual event could have done with a little less rain, but it nevertheless failed to put a damper on a great afternoon!

"It all went very well, although with a downpour around 3.30pm people moved off the street quite quickly," he said.

"Getting the roads closed for the afternoon was the easy part of it."

But while it was in full swing, with a lady on a horse riding up and down and a knight in armour in pursuit, everyone had a great time and takings looked very similar to last year's great effort. The display of Newnham's history was particularly popular with crowds flocking in at one point, and the evening concert at The George with Cheeky Monkey and Dick Brice was a big success.
