I have recently received, with my Council Tax demand from the FODDC, a booklet in which the benefits of "green waste" recycling are extolled by a local businessman/farmer.

This man takes most of the FODDC "green waste" and after processing sells it on the open market as a mulch or fertiliser. He uses it himself as it's excellent for his apple trees and he can see a market in this area.

Can this be the same "green waste" that the FODDC wants to charge the tax payer £26 to collect? Surely not!

Years ago, when I was a lad, a man in the village used to collect potato peelings etc from householders  for his pigs.

When a pig was killed needless to say we didn't get any of the bacon but neither did he charge us to take the peelings away!

If the local businessman wants our "green waste" as far as I'm concerned he can come and collect it himself. Or does it have to be collected by a council appointed contractor at our cost in order that the waste can be counted towards the FODDC recycling targets?

Also I would like to know what contracts are in place with the processor. Do we, the tax payers, get a percentage of the profits?
