WHILE most people enjoyed a relaxing Easter, Will Gooch of Monmouth and David Chynoweth of Cinderford walked the length of Hadrian's Wall dressed as Roman centurians.

The lads are raising money for a World Challenge trip to India with Monmouth Comprehensive this summer.

After carrying the weight of riveted metal for five days, trekking in the Himalayas and doing community work sounds like a doddle, they said.

The armour was lent by the school. It was so heavy that they could carry only the bare minimum in their rucksacks. Even with padding, their shoulders were rubbed raw after the first day.

Some tourists assumed they were part of the attraction and bomabarded them with questions.

Will and Dave decided they were part of the 5th Legion, known for its rowdy behaviour, although they were too tired to indulge in much along the 100 km route.

They did come second in a pub quiz, but that was as rowdy as it got. Anyone who would like to contribute to the trip can do so via the school.
