WITH the nights starting to draw in and leaves falling from the trees, it’s a sign that the seasons are changing. October brings us Halloween, whose origins date back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when it was believed that the ghosts of the dead returned to earth.

As Halloween approaches we have teamed up with Caldicot Castle, in conjunction with Caldicot Community Working Together, for a spooky competition.

Caldicot Castle is set in tranquil gardens and a wooded country park. Founded by the Normans, developed in royal hands as a stronghold in the Middle Ages and restored as a Victorian family home, the castle has a romantic and colourful history.

Come to Caldicot Castle this Halloween for a Haunted Halloween Quest. See inside the ancient castle walls and explore the creepy castle grounds with a Halloween trail exploring the cobwebbed nooks, haunted crannies and spooky towers of Caldicot Castle. There’s even a Halloween goody bag for every child taking part!

Supported by Caldicot Castle and Monmouthshire County Council, the event runs from Saturday, October 27 until Wednesday, October 31, from 11am until 4pm.

Our prize is for two lucky winners to each receive two children’s tickets to the spooky trail. For your chance to win simply answer the following question.

On what date do we celebrate Halloween?

To enter simply post your answer in the comments box at the bottom of this article, or send in the competition form printed on the back page of this week’s Review. Good luck!

The closing date for this competition is 1pm on Monday, October 15.

The usual Review terms and conditions apply.
