OUR new competition to win a family ticket for the Dean Forest Railway Diesel Gala is just the ticket!

The gala runs from Friday to Sunday, September 13 to 15, and will be starring the Class 33 33063 RJ Mitchell engine, courtesy of the South East Locomotive Group, named after the designer of the iconic Spitfire aircraft.

It will also feature home locomotives, including D9521 and D3937, plus a very special visit from the 03 locomotive D2069, running its first workings since its restoration at the Vale of Berkeley Railway.

The winner of our competition will be on track for a great family ticket to the Dean Forest Railway Diesel Gala on either Sept 13, 14 or 15, with unlimited rides and access to the evening real ale Beer Ex train to purchase drinks (subject to availability).

An intensive timetable will be in operation, with passenger and freight workings, including the railway’s Dogfish ballast hoppers.

For those attending, it will be possible to ride in the brake van (for a small supplement) on the ballast trains, experiencing the thrill of a lifetime as a freight guard.

Don’t worry if you don’t win our competition, daytime travel tickets will be available. There is also an evening dining train alongside the Beer-Ex on the Saturday evening, hauled by the visiting locomotive.

Tickets for the dining train are separate from the gala tickets, but daytime tickets will cover the evening Beer-Ex train.

The station cafe will be open throughout, and the new bar at Norchard will have a variety of local real ales and ciders to enjoy.

To be in with a chance of winning a family ticket to the gala, just answer this question: Who wrote The Railway Children?
