A LOCAL businessman looks into the feasability of generating electricity with a wind turbine and some residents get upset.
They don't like wind turbines because they think it will affect the price of their property. We all depend on electricity – our civilisation needs energy.
Consider the options:
Firstly solar, tidal, water and wind power – clean, harmless, available world-wide, pratically limitless.
Secondly power from burning oil, gas, coal and waste – dirty, causes global warming and limited.
Thirdly, and by far the most deadly, nuclear energy. You can't see it but the consequences of radioactive pollution are hrrendous. It is a silent, invisible killer of all life that can last for generations.
How on earth can anyone can even contemplate increasing our dependency on nuclear power stations after the appalling consequences in Japan. Don't say that tsunamis can't happen here – it is an historical fact that a tsunami devasted the Severn estuary several centuries ago. Another would smash the nuclear power stations on the estuary and release huge amounts of radiation causing even more cancer and leukemia.
What price our beautiful Forest of Dean then! It would become a radioactive wasteland for hundreds of years.
As people thinking about moving into the Forest realise this what then will be the effect on house prices?
Think about it – windmills always were and always will be beautiful!
