A 66-year-old woman was injured after falling as she crossed this drawbridge at Caldicot Castle.

The woman fell about 15 feet into a dry moat from the bridge which visitors have to cross to enter the castle.

She was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital after the accident on Thursday morning.

The Health and Safety Executive and Gwent Police took statements at the scene.

Temporary fencing was erected at the entrance of the castle but the tourist attraction, which is run by Monmouthshire Council, remained open.

Leader of the Council, Councillor Peter Fox, was filmed for the council blog explaining the incident. It is available to view at http://www.monmouthshirecc">www.monmouthshirecc.
