A MAN found dead in woodland has been identified as "kind" and "gentle-hearted" Matthew Tregidden, who went missing 10 weeks ago.

The family of the 43-year-old said he was "adored" by them and would be "deeply missed".

Police say they are not treating his death as suspicious following the discovery of his body in woods close to Camp Road in Chepstow last week.

Mr Tregidden was last seen in the town on Monday, December 4, and police feared at the time he may have been sleeping rough during the freezing weather.

They appealed for anyone who had seen him to get in touch, but there were no sightings until the discovery of his body last Wednesday (February 14).

A Gwent Police spokesman said: "We can confirm, that the man has now been formally identified as 43-year-old Matthew Treggiden, who was last seen on December 4.

"Officers are not treating the death as suspicious at this time and his family are being supported by specialist officers."

A family tribute said: "We would like to thank the police and everyone involved who helped Matthew and the person who found him.

"We would also like to thank all our friends who have offered their support over these difficult months.

"Matthew was a kind, gentle-hearted person, adored by his family and will be deeply missed."
