FRIENDS of Chestnuts Woods are inviting the public to attend their AGM at Flaxley School Rooms tomorrow (Thursday, November 19).

Secretary, Mary Newton, said: “There will be an update and discussion about Chestnuts Woods followed by a talk, with slides, on the excavation works recently undertaken on the scheduled ancient monument, Welshbury Hill Fort. Roman and medieval pottery found during the excavation will be on display.

“Phil Daniels, chair of Dean Archaeology Group said they worked hard to get all the correct permissions and that work was supervised by Monmouth and Gloucestershire county archaeolo-

gists.  As far as Phil is aware, this is the first time the monument has actually been excavated.

The AGM begins at 7.30pm.
