Ruardean Woodside's new playgroup HQ, officially opened this week, is a tribute to a massive community effort, say the organisers.

Hundreds of hours of hard work has transformed the former administration block at the village primary school into a bright and welcoming venue. And to top it off the group has been awarded a grant of £2,900 from the National Lottery to fit double-glazing, storage cupboards, a carpet and a hot water heater.

"The task initially appeared daunting but with a lot of hard work from the committee and donations from far and wide the premises began to take shape. We would particularly like to offer our gratitude to Mr Maurice Bent for all his hard work in helping us to make this venture possible," said a spokesperson.
