WOOLASTON Primary School took the shield in the Primary Schools Mock Trials and acting head Sue Bowen says she is incredibly proud of their achievement.

She said: "They were very well prepared by their class teacher Miss Judy Powell and the children have thoroughly enjoyed it. They are a very confident year group and were so excited to win."

12 schools took part in this year's competition and the court hopes to run the competition again next year.

Coleford Courthouse chairman John Williams said: "The children took on the roles of prosecution and defence with a great deal of professionalism.

"Overall the children gained a lot of experience from this competition and they realise to some degree what law and order is all about."

Millie Collins of Woolaston Primary School won a prize for designing a poster promoting the police, with Rebecca Howard of Littledean Primary School coming second.

The top court reporter was Terri-Ann Watkins of English Bicknor Primary School and the best court artist was James De-Witt of Lydney C of E School.
