MOTORISTS are being warned that a busy road in Cinderford will be closed for five days next Monday for resurfacing.

Gloucestershire County Council says it’s hoped the work in St White’s Road, between the junction with Ruspidge Road and the roundabout at Abbots Road, will complete on Friday, December 16.

At least 825 tonnes of asphalt will be laid and Highways say it will need to shut the road from 7.30am until 5.30pm each day.

It’s understood access will be maintained for emergency vehicles and to pedestrians, especially those trying to reach St Whites Primary School. The White Hart pub can be accessed from the Valley Road side and from Ruspidge Road. Access to the Mount Pleasant pub will be possible when safe.

A signed diversion avoiding Cinderford town centre and suitable for heavy goods vehicles will be in place to the north and south of Cinderford.

The northern diversion is via Valley Road, Nailbridge, Mitcheldean,

A40, A48, Westbury-on-Severn, Littledean and vice versa.

The southern diversion is via Speech House, Lydney, Blakeney, Newnham, Littledean and vice versa. Local lighter traffic will know of shorter routes.

It’s understood letters to affected residents and businesses were hand-delivered last Tuesday (November 29).
