NEIGHBOURS of Wyedean School and Sixth Form Centre in Sedbury say promises to act on litter left round their properties by pupils have not been fulfilled.

One neighbour, Sarah Randell, who lives opposite the school, says pupils even sit on her open plan lawn and leave a mess behind them – and coping stones removed from her wall have not been fixed.

"All of us are at our wits end and are looking forward to the summer holidays when the kids are off," she says.

"For the past four years we have had problems with the sixth-formers sitting on our front lawn leaving rubbish everywhere.

"We have all been over to see the headmaster as well as the head of sixth form with our concerns, and have taken over endless bags of rubbish we collect every day."

Miss Randell said the school had promised to fix the stones which pupils had removed to sit on, but nothing had been done – she was now trying to get them fixed through her home insurance. Promises to stop the rubbish problem had not so far materialised, she said.

Head teacher of Wyedean School Clive Pamberton said: "We work very hard to ensure that our students know their responsibilities to our neighbours in Sedbury. We have joined with our local street wardens to reduce the amount of litter in the area, and members of staff respond personally to neighbours who are not happy with our students in the community.

"Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, a minority of students let us down sometimes by leaving litter in the area. We will continue to treat any complaints seriously, and to ensure that any student found to have left litter in Sedbury is dealt with appropriately."
