I WAS very surprised to read in the Review of November 27 that the headteacher and governors of Wyedean School are apparently somewhat complacent about the findings of their recent Ofsted inspection, reassuring parents that there is no real cause for concern.
I would urge parents to read the report on Ofsted's website. They will discover that the school has been rated as inadequate (grade four) in three out of four categories, including the achievement of pupils, the quality of teaching and the leadership and management.
The report does not pull any punches in its judgements and some of the comments made by the headteacher are definitely not reflected in the actual report.
The editor's comments were equally blase, presumably reflecting the headteacher's attitude.
To be placed in special measures has serious implications for a school and should not be downplayed in this way.
The assertion that the headteacher and governors would be able to turn this around swiftly has a hollow ring.
If, after seven years in post, the head with the governors, had the capacity to take the school forward, surely this would have been achieved by now.
