THE WINNER and runner-up of this year’s Forest of Stone Firms Cup hosted by Yorkley Angling Club at Cannop Ponds on Sunday both work for the company!

Derek Hale and Graham Andrews were among 23 entrants for the competition, which has been running for about a decade.

Derek was the runaway winner with his haul of 18lbs 6oz of mainly bream from peg 45, nearly double the catch of his nearest competitor.

Graham’s catch was 9lb 10oz from peg 15 and David Norris was third with a haul of 9lb 7oz from peg 41.

David, a spokesman for Yorkley Angling Club, said: “It was quite hard on Sunday because of the weather.

“The rain on Friday and Saturday had stirred up the ponds, so there was plenty of food about for the fish which meant they were not coming up for ours.

The prizes of £100 for first, £50 for second and £25 for third were sponsored by the Cannop-based Forest of Dean Stone Firms.

David said: “We are grateful for their continued support of the competition.”
