A CHARITY football match featuring players from several local clubs raised more than £3,000.

Broadwell Veterans took on a Forest Charity invitation XI at Broadwell's ground to raise money for research into Motor Neurone Disease.

It was played in memory of Robert Hale, a much-respected player for Lydbrook, Coleford and Ellwood, who died of the disease a couple of years ago.

The invitation side, which included several players from Mr Hale's former clubs, ran out 3-0 winners.

Broadwell club chairman, Pat Sergeant said: "It was a great day and showed what people thought of Rob.

"It brought together a lot of people together.

"We had a really good crowd and we would like to thank everyone who helped throughout the day and with the evening event."
