CHEPSTOW Town consolidated their fourth place in the East Gwent League with a 3-0 home victory over Caldicot Town.

Tom Penny grabbed his first goal of the season to put Chepstow ahead, Richard Lord smashed a 20-yard drive into the roof of the net to make it 2-0 and Craig White sealed the points with the third.

"I wasn't our best performance of the season," admitted Chepstow boss Dean White.

"But most importantly, we came away with three points."

Severn Tunnel A enjoyed a 3-1 success at Blackrock Rovers although it should have been more, according to Tunnel goalscorer Tom Atkins.

"We made a lot of chances and wasted a few," he said. "It could have been a higher score, but it was good to win."

The other Tunnel goals came from Nathan Wheeler and Dougie Drummond.

Rovers' manager Leigh Taylor saw it slightly different, however.

"Our scorer was Richard Lee," he said. "Our keeper Ryan Skellorn kept us in the game with some good saves and we had a 20-minute spell where we could have snatched the game, but they finished stronger and deserved the win."

Only one of the Fishwick Cup matches survived the recent rain and Castle A ended Tintern Abbey's involvement with a 4-2 home win. Ben Mayo and Darryl Reynolds were Abbey's scorers while their keeper Stuart Williams saved a penalty.

"We played well in the first half and were probably the better team," said Abbey manager Martin Woodford.

"We showed character in battling back in the later stages but it was too little, too late. "We were too inclined to hit the ball long rather than play our natural passing game and the midfield failed to provide sufficient support to Geraint Reynolds up front."
