CHEPSTOW picked up a second hard-fought vic­tory in a week with an 8-5 win over fifth-placed Talywain.

A first-half try by centre Shane Reece and three points from the boot of Nick Williams with five minutes left on the clock consolidated the club's position in sixth place of Swalec League Four East.

Chepstow took the lead mid-way through the first period after working through around 15 phases of play to set up Reece who finished from 10 yards out.

But with the home side unable to add to the score the Eastern Valley visitors capitalised after their wing collected a long kick downfield by Chepstow to race up the other end, and break through the defence to score.

With time-running out a visiting player came back from an offside position to kick the ball away and gift Williams with a chance to win the game which he duly took. Chepstow, who remain sixth, face bottom-club Blaina away this weekend.
