Chepstow remain seventh in the South Wales Hockey League with two games to play after a 0-0 draw with Llan Llan.
The result means Chepstow have now drawn more games – five – than any other team in Division One.
In the unforgiving heat both sides let the ball do the work with Chepstow dominating the early possession.
But excellent defending from the home side, who were quick to tackle in the "D", kept direct goal opportunities to a minimum throughout the opening exchanges.
At the other end Llan Llan's counter-attack were quashed by a solid Chepstow defence.
Chepstow continued to control the game and nearly took the lead when a great passing move down the right between Rachel Newman, Callula Hebbes and Hilary Baker led to a powerful strike on goal.
But despite the rebound finding its way to a Chepstow shirt they were unable to capitalise.
As the game went on both sides began to tire in the heat but it was Chepstow that continued to look the more likely to score. Switching their attack to the left wing and pivoting off the central players they managed to get into the "D" for another attempt on goal but were again unable to convert.
