Whitehouse Press North Gloucester Division Three
St Briavels 4-1 Redmarley Reserves
------
ST Briavels’ top-scorer Pete Meredith added to his pre-match haul of nine with three more goals.
It was the perfect way to start a new sponsorship deal with Cole-ford firm Morgan Engineering.
Meredith’s first was a penalty – awarded after his son Nathan was adjudged to have been brought down in the area at the end of a 40-yard run.
His second came 10 minutes before the break with a header off a Lance Evans corner.
Both sides tried to play passing football in difficult conditions and a Matthew Pickering goal after 70 minutes brought the visitors back into the game.
St Briavels’ nerves were settled within five minutes when Meredith again headed home an Evans corner.
The home side settled the match in style with a Jack
Batcock 30-yarder.
St Briavels’ manager Andy Kear said: “It was a hard-fought match between two determined sides.
“I was a bit worried when they pulled back the goal, but we went on to get a couple more.
“The referee, Dean Wassel, had a very good game.
“He refereed with commonsense and made good use of advantage.”
St Briavels are now second and will push for promotion.
