Berry Hill 34-8 St Mary’s Old Boys
--------
BERRY Hill claimed five valuable league points after fighting back from a poor start which allowed the Bristol side an early try and penalty.
Urged on by the example of Number 8 and Man of the Match Michael Griffiths, the Hillmen not only fought their way back into the game but dominated the last 60 minutes.
The fightback began with two Kieran Aston penalties and a relentless assault on the Almondsbury side’s line and it was a break inspired by Griffiths that almost led to the first Berry Hill try, but wing Joe Lewis was unable to ground the ball.
The first try came soon after with good possession from a scrum leading to flanker Louis Overthrow scoring near the posts.
Aston converted to give Berry Hill a 13-8 half-time lead.
The Hillmen underlined their dominance with an excellent team display in the second-half despite deteriorating conditions.
A scrum driven forward by Griffiths sucked in defenders allowing outside Nathan Tucker to exploit the gap and score.
Griffiths himself drove over for the third try with Aston maintaining his 100 per cent record with conversions.
There was more pressure on the St Mary’s line and eventually Tucker went over for his second try that gave the Hillmen the try bonus.
Aston converted to end the game with a personal tally of 14 points.
