Northern Senior League Division Two – Lydney Reserves 1-0 English Bicknor
----
LYDNEY Reserves returned to action after a frustrating month of cancelled games and picked up the points against Forest rivals English Bicknor.
A well-taken penalty by George Jelley midway through the second-half was enough to secure the points for Lydney.
Lydney manager Jonny Brookes said: “It was a hard-fought match and we played well after having a few matches cancelled.
“That affected our league position but hopefully now we can push on back up the table.”
It was a frustrating day for the visitors, said the team’s joint manager Daryl Addis.
He said: “We’re not having much luck at the moment and decisions go against us.
“We’ve also got a few players out with injuries and suspensions which is hurting us.”
Among those ruled out is Addis himself who picked up a two-game ban the previous week for the most bizarre of reasons.
He said: “At half-time, I needed the toilet so I went off to some bushes but the referee saw me and came over.
“I thought I might get a talking to and perhaps a yellow but when he took out the red I couldn’t believe it. I thought he might have used a bit of common sense.”
“I’ve been playing football for 21 years and I’ve never had anything like this,” he added.
“I even ended up on TalkSport radio talking about it.”
Official guidance to referees is to send off players who do not use the toilet facilities.
Without Addis on the pitch, Bicknor lost the game to Winchcombe 4-3.
Elsewhere in the division, leaders Woolaston won 2-0 at Bibury with goals from James Burchill and Richard John Lloyd while second-placed Whitecroft earned a point with a 2-2 draw at Barnwood United.
The goals came from Jordan Locke and Finnan Maguire-Hamblett.
