THE NEW Glamorgan and Monmouthshire cricket league champions have more to celebrate after receiving a £1,000 grant.

Sudbrook Cricket Club will use the money from the cricket community development fund to replace the fascia on its scorebox.

The fund is a partnership between Cricket Wales, Glamorgan Cricket and energy company Swalec to enable clubs to buy new equipment, kit or facilities..

Brian Gibbins, secretary of the Caldicot-based club, said: ""We've had our scorebox for ten years and it began to malfunction so it was in need of repair.

"It's great we have had the money from SWALEC to replace the fascia.

"We've also repositioned the scorebox and now it's visible to everyone in the crowd.

"For many people, the cricket club is a huge part of their social life and we reach a lot of people in the community.

"We're a growing club with around 300 members including teams in the under 9s, under 11s, 13s and 15s as well as a first, second and third adult side."

Jonny Petrie, head of sponsorship at SWALEC, said: "We hope that the Community Development Fund will encourage more people to get involved with the game of cricket and we aim to strengthen the game at grassroots level.

As well as receiving £1,000 the club was also given free tickets to a Glamorgan Cricket match.
