LYDNEY triathlon medallist, Andy Lewis narrowly missed out on silver by 40 seconds at the ITU World Series Triathlon.

The talented Paralympic athlete, who only started triathlon training last October, bagged bronze after spending last week preparing for the annual event with the GB squad.

Supporters watched Andy take on a 20km bike ride, 5km run and 750m swim at London's Hyde Park.

Andy said: "It's amazing to feel part of Team GB and to finally prove to myself that I can achieve great things. It was one of the toughest events I've done so far but to bring a medal home to the Forest of Dean is amazing. I did this for those who have believed in me and gave me the support over the last seven months, so thank you."

Andy now has to continue training for another big event in August where he competes for the British Paratriathlon title in Liverpool.

Andy says he wants to pass in his experience in elite sports and disability sport to schools and children in the Forest, and maybe become a mentor to those who want to get active.

He added: "I feel proud of where I live and want to give something back to the community. I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to get active and if I can offer any support or guidance please get in touch, disabled or not."
