A FUN run organised by the Cinderford branch of the Royal British Legion raised some £600 for the Poppy Appeal.

Around 100 runners took part in the inaugural Red Petal Run held at Mallards Pike near Soudley.

Branch spokesman Mark Evans said: “This was the first time we’ve held the run and it was a huge success.

“We were hoping for about 50 runners but we had around 100 people taking part and we are hoping to do it again next year.”

The 5K run started and finished at the beginning of the Adidas Trail, a partnership between the sportswear firm, the Forest of Dean Athletic Club and the Forestry Commission.

Before the start there was a bugle call to remember the fallen of two world wars and other conflicts.

Every runner was presented with a commemorative certificate and mug.
