PLAYERS past, present and future turned out for a special match last weekend, as Ruardean Cricket Club celebrated their 125th anniversary.
The match, held between a special selected President's XI, pitched against a Ruardean Hill team made up of current members of the club, brought together many veteran players, keen to celebrate the historic milestone in the clubs history.
Martin Symonds, Fixtures Secretary and 2nd team captain commented: "It was a great get together and reunion, and a chance to chat about the clubs history. And it spanned the generations – we have players in their sixties still playing, including Dennis Symonds who is 65 and plays in the first team. Terry Burgham, who umpired at the weekend, will be celebrating his 50th season with the club next year. The Hill side also included Pete, Paul and Jack Weaving – grandad, son and grandson."
Martin is compiling a book about the history of the club, and anyone with memories to contribute can contact him at [email protected]">[email protected].
•The club is to hold a special Presentation Dinner to celebrate their 125 years. This will be held at Bells golf club on September 21.
