ANGLERS taking part in a six hour competition on Sunday hauled out a remarkable 1,000lbs of fish.
The winning team of four – calling themselves the White Van Men – landed 260lbs of carp. Their top fisherman, Brian Dix, weighed in 96lbs 8ozs.
Competition organiser Chris Gardner said they had not counted the total number of fish caught or the heaviest fish captured, but that everyone in the six teams of four taking part in the match at Elton Carp Lakes had weighed in.
"The competition went very well for everyone. The total number of fish caught weighed around 1,000lbs so you can see it was a very successful day," he said.
The competition was to raise money for a bowel cancer charity.
"Though we missed last year, we have been holding the charity match since 2008 and we are hoping it will be repeated again next autumn," said Mr Gardner.
The trophies were presented by Mr Gardner's wife, Trish.
