CHEPSTOW Boxing Club is celebrating three victories at the Welsh Novice Championships held near Port recently.

Jude Holmes, Luke Conner and Codi Leamon made up the victorious trio. Luke and Codie are both 14 years old and both live in Chepstow and go to Wyedean School. Codi Leamon lives in Portskewett, is 11 years old and goes to Chepstow School.

Head coach, Steve Woods, said: “First into the ring for Chepstow was Jude Holmes who took on Tyler Evans of Gilfach Goch Amateur Boxing Club (ABC) based in the Rhondda Valley. Jude used his reach to his advantage and boxed to a comfortable victory, with all three judges giving the win to Holmes.

“Next up was Luke Conner who boxed against Billy Johnson of Colcot ABC in Barry. Conner started as he meant to go on with a fierce,non-stop attack – this cancelled out Johnson’s chance to counterpunch as Conner didn’t let up from the start of the round to the end. In the second round Conner was much more accurate with his punches and in the third round it was all getting too much for the Colcot boxer who was probably glad to hear the final bell. The bout was judged unanimously in favour of Luke.

“On the Sunday, Chepstow boxer Codi Leamon took on Harrison Burgess of Pantside ABC. Although Burgess was very keen in his attack he was not as skilled in the art of boxing as Leamon. Burgess kept himself busy and kept coming forward but Leamon used his boxing skill to block and slip punches then came back with far more accurate punches himself. The judges clearly liked Leamon’s clearer punches and he also took the win.”
