POLICE made 18 arrests during a day long crime crackdown carried out in the Forest of Dean last Thursday.

Operation Sixways ran from 10am until 10pm.

The main aim was to clamp down on drug offences, but attention was also given to road safety and crime prevention.

"The town of Cinderford was the main focus for the drugs work and the officers involved were rewarded with some positive results," said Sgt Rich Boyles.

"The people of Cinderford are also to be thanked for information they provided to us via Crimestoppers and direct to officers. We always endeavour to act positively on all information and wish to encourage other people to come forward and assist us in dealing effectively with offenders."

Four drugs warrants were executed – three in Cinderford and one in Mitcheldean – cannabis and heroin were seized.

Ten people were arrested for drug supply and drug possession offences and one stolen goods warrant was executed.

Seven people were arrested on suspicion of theft in a case where stolen goods worth £8,000 were taken from premises in Newent.
