POLICE are appealing for information after a woman reportedly had wet toilet paper thrown over her in a town public loo.

While the incident no doubt left the victim upset, the police appeal sparked a stream of comments and jokes on social media.

The Ross-on-Wye Safer Neighbourhood Team posted: "We are appealing for a witness to come forward after a woman was assaulted in Ross-on-Wye on Saturday 25 July.

"At around 4.40pm, the victim, a woman in her 60s, was using a cubicle in the public toilets on Brookend Street when five girls threw wet toilet paper into the cubicle, hitting her. Thankfully, she was not injured.

"Officers have obtained CCTV showing a woman that they believe witnessed the incident and are asking her to come forward to assist with their enquiries.

"The woman was wearing a red dress, red trainers, carrying a brown bag, and has blonde hair.

"We would like to give her the opportunity to come forward before we consider releasing the CCTV image to help identify her.

"We must stress she is not in any trouble with the police.

"Please contact the Ross-on-Wye Safer Neighbourhood Team by emailing [email protected]."

Numerous posters made comment on the appeal, one saying: "There were also missing toilet seats… police said they have nothing to go on…"

Others said: "I can’t see what the "tissue" is!", "Bog standard these days.." and "Got to be a made up story, whoever heard of a public toilet in Herefordshire!"

Some said the report "had to be a joke".

It follows a police appeal to find three boys in the town after water pistols were allegedly fired at passing vehicles.

One poster queried the point of pursuing the likes of "kids with water pistols", a "guy that took a bite out of a cake” in a garage, and "someone who threw toilet roll".
