Promising young local boxers put on a super show at Forest Hills Golf Club on Monday evening, and won high praise from event matchmaker Bryan Higgs.
"It was a cracking night and all the boxers did well. They can't wait for the next event," said Higgs, who is Lydney Boxing Club's chief coach.
The Forest Hills venue proved a big success and Higgs is hoping the tournament can return there next year. Meanwhile a club show will probably be held at Bream RFC in November.
Monday's tournament, supported by the Army who gave equipment to all those who boxed, featured 12 contests.
In the senior bouts Cinderford's Glenn Morgan, 19, was in splendid form and won his light middleweight contest against Weston's D. Davaine.
Super heavyweight Rich Ruck of Lydney, was stopped in the second round of his fight against Penhill's A. Brown.
In the junior section Becky Preest, 14, of Lydney, was beaten in a close contest against Samantha Bowen, of Mountain Ash.
But there were wins for Chris Higgs,13, and Tom Legge,14, while Joe Brooks lost a majority verdict.
The Best Up and Coming boxer award went to Tom Legge; the Most Dedicated boxer award to Becky Preest, and the Gavin Shields Memorial Shield for the best Lydney boxer was won by Chris Higgs.
