A DAY which celebrated Lydney was on the cards for the national Heritage Open Day at the weekend.
The event, held at the Lydney Community Centre, was full of exhibitions including photographs of how the historic Severnside town has changed over the last 100 years – courtesy of Marie Fraser-Griffiths of Lydney Hospital Friends.
Nearly 200 people visited the centre to soak up the history and culture of the area which Lydney Old Grammarians and the Forest of Dean History Society helped with, as well as watch a piano recital by three local talented pianists who played on the centre's newly-purchased piano.
Committee member, Cllr Derek Biddle said: "The piano recital was held in the middle of the day and was brilliantly played by sisters Adele and Olivia Franghidi, of Lydney, and Wyedean student Laura Chimes. We have just bought the piano and wanted to celebrate it.
"The committee was pleasantly surprised with the turnout and good feedback, so much so they want to hold the event again next year."
Other attractions across the Forest took advantage of pulling in the crowds including St Briavels Castle, Broadwell Memorial Hall and Bespoke Brewery at Mitcheldean – to name a few!
