AUCTIONEER Ken Hayward’s dress code for sales is usually quite sober – but he couldn’t resist a dare for Comic Relief.
When a collection of clothing and other items used to transform a man’s appearance into a woman’s came into Mews Auctions in Mitcheldean, Ken was challenged to wear some of them in exchange for a £100 donation to the charity.
Ken accepted the challenge from dealer Dave Phelan and so last Friday (March 24) some 640 lots went under the hammer with Ken in a wig and with his chest “enhanced”.
“It’s all for a good cause,” said Ken.
As well as Dave’s £100, customers and dealers chipped in another £260 which Mews Auctions made up to a round £400 for Comic Relief.
Ken’s wife and fellow director at Mews Auctions, Dorothy, said: “It was a very good evening but I’ve told Ken to stay out of my wardrobe.
“People enjoyed the evening and were very supportive and raised £160 which we made up to £400.”
