We have now had the Government announcement and it is absolutely clear: "The Forest is not for Sale." During the past few weeks there has been much speculation and many unkind letters, some completely unsubstantiated, in the local press.
I, for one do not doubt for one minute, the integrity of our Member of Parliament, Mark Harper. As a Government Minister it has been impossible for him to make any public statement on this issue, until the Government were able to announce the detail on which properly informed debate can take place. It is also quite clear that he was working tirelessly behind the scenes to get the right result. I also believe that he cares deeply about the Forest of Dean and the people he represents.
Anyone who cares about the future of the Forest of Dean now has the opportunity to express their views and concerns in the Public Consultation which will run until April 21, 2011.
This is a golden opportunity – please don't waste it!
– Cllr Marrilyn Smart OBE, Conservative, Christchurch and English Bicknor.
