BREAM Amateurs Football Club under-14s youth team is living up to its ‘bull dogs’ nickname for now as it receives new sponsored kits.
Manager Vinny Amand said the team are looking good since Bream-based masonry contractors, M E Damsell chose to support them.
The team only formed in 2012 but has moved from seven-a-side to 11 and each season climbed a few places higher and in its final season of the mid Gloucestershire mini soccer league finished in a Champions league place.
Vinny said: “My assistant, Chris Workman, and I decided it was time to get football back in the village and set up the team in 2012. We got together a bunch of kids, boys and girls, from the village that had never played football before and entered the mid Gloucestershire mini soccer league.
“Our final finish in the league meant we were entitled to play an extra competition. We didn’t do too well, but it was our world cup final just being there.
“This season, we have made the final jump to 11-a-side on a full pitch. Our pitch in Bream is under construction still and the school pitch where we have been playing is not big enough. So Bream Rugby Club has kindly lent us their pitch for home matches, hence we are now known as the Bulldogs in reference to Bream Rugby Club, also known by this.
“Over the years we have had to be self-sufficient and managed to secure several sponsors. The last couple of years, F P McCann of Lydney has sponsored our kit and all training wear and this year are sponsoring our tracksuits while M E Damsell of Bream have kindly donated our new kit.
“We needed a new kit as kids grow really quickly and also to tie in with club colours. This is our fifth year together and we now have a huge squad of kids from all over the Forest.
“What began as a small village idea, has now grown into a much more open thing and we are now extremely successful and the kids thoroughly enjoy playing for us.”
