IF any of your readers who commute daily from the Forest into Gloucester are (like me) fed up with the long tailback approaching Over roundabout each morning during school term time, can I suggest they lobby the under-mentioned person at Birmingham Highways Agency to try to improve the situation.
I have been writing to Gloucestershire County Council for years requesting that they take some action to ease the congestion. My suggestion is that they install peak hour traffic lights and widen the throat at the approach to the roundabout from two to three lanes to help the traffic flow better. Unfortunately I have had no success in the past. However recently I e-mailed Graham Morgan and he made some enquiries which produced the response below.
I believe that if more people write and express their frustration with the present delays to the Highways Agency we might finally bring about some improvement. – Bryn Pitcher, Causeway Road, Cinderford.
'Dear Mr Pitcher,
Your e-mail regarding the above has been forwarded to me as Area Traffic Manager.
At present the A40, and for that matter the A48, are designated Trunk Roads and are currently managed by the Highways Agency. Gloucestershire County Council is not responsible for these two roads.
Consequently I have forwarded your e-mail to Mr Wayne Norris, Route Manager, Highways Agency, C4, Broadway, Broad Street, Birmingham B15 1BL.
I trust that this is to your satisfaction. – Richard S. Waters, Area Traffic Manager.'
