A GROUP of climate activists gathered at Lydney Cross on Valentine’s to show the planet some love.

The group was part of the Global Climate Strike movement and some of the banners for Friday’s protest were, appropriately, in the shape of hearts.

Among those calling for more action on climate change were Mrs Alex Vernon, and her daughter Robyn from St Briavels.

She said: “We are part of the Global Climate Strike movement and it is Valentine’s Day so we thought what better way to show the planet that we care.

“We are really worried. I am here as an anxious mother, scared for the future of my daughter.

“The world is hotting up and there is going to be more dramatic weather.

“We are all going to be affected and I think people are not seeing that yet.

“So it is time to wake up and respond as if it is an actual emergency.

“It is the Youth Climate Strike as well as Mother’s Rise-Up, which is a big national movement for mothers who are scared for the future of their children.”

She also called on Forest of Dean MP Mark Harper to take notice of the climate change movement in the region.

She said: “We want Mark Harper to know that there are people in his consiuency who are scared and who want him to act and the Tories are just not acting fast enough.

“Carbon neutral by 2050 is not soon enough. It is terrifying.”
