A TEEN hub in Cinderford has avoided permanent closure after floods of volunteers rallied around to save it.

The CANDI 'Drop In' on Market Street was forced to close temporarily due to staff shortage, but following an appeal in the local media for volunteers, members of the community offered to help support the project.

It will re-open on Monday (December 2) and, based on the suggestions of young people in the area, will be open on Monday evenings at 6pm to those in Years Seven, Eight and Nine, and Years 10 upwards on Wednesdays at 7pm.

Sue Fellows, CANDI co-ordinator said she was delighted by the response from members of the local community and their commitment to saving this much-needed facility for young people of Cinderford and surrounding parishes.

She said: "We now have a full compliment of dedicated volunteers and look forward to once again, providing the young people with a safe warm meeting space off the streets."
