I WAS reading the article in your last publication on the New Deal for jobs for people of 50 and over. How encouraging it was to find there are employers out there prepared to employ a person of that age.

The ball now stands in the court of all local employers. If a firm like Glevum say they want older workers to fill the jobs advertised in job centres and in the local press, it answers the question doesn't it?

These people are not over the hill, and most of all they want to work. The amount of knowledge they have to offer to younger employees is unbelievable.

So come on, give them a chance to prove their worth and to pass on a wealth of knowledge to younger workers. Together we can all build a prosperous industrious nation.

In the end everyone will benefit from the legacy passed down to them and now it's time to pass it on. Don't let this one big chance slip through your fingers – there is an old saying, and it's true, you can't buy experience. – Dave Bowkett, Cinderford.
