Why can't they leave Allaston alone?
It is barely a week since planners turned down the idea of 200 plus houses behind Allaston Road and now another developer wants to put up 11,000 solar panels at Hulks Farm.
It amuses me how these people always want to do these things for altruistic motives. They completely fail to mention the large sums of money which will go into their pockets.
This one tells us it is a 'small' site but it depends how you look at it. It will, cover 19 acres – that is almost twenty football pitches.
The panels will only be three metres high – about ten feet in old money and almost twice the height of a man.
There won't be any noise nuisance. I think these sites have pretty hefty transformers attached and I don't know what noise they might make.
Accepting that more energy is needed then why not put the panels where they will have little adverse effect such as on the roofs of all the buildings on the industrial estate?
I suspect the reason might be that the owners of such buildings are hard-headed businessmen who may want a bigger share of the profit than the developer wants to give.
When (I hope) this scheme is turned down who would like to bet that another developer will come along and want to start fracking for oil off Allaston Road – probably on the children's playground.
